Fco. Alonso Murillo Valverde Master Mask Maker

Biography
 

Francisco Alonso Murillo Valverde, traditional master mask maker (made with clay, paper, flour paste), publicist, cultural manager, composer, writer, actor and storyteller was born on Thursday, March 15, 1979, in San José, Costa Rica. He is the only child of Ana Lorena Murillo Valverde.

In 2008, he married María Gabriela Muñoz Morales.

Father Ana Luisa, María Jimena and Luis Alonso.

Founder and first President of the Board of Directors of Aserrí Cultural Group Association (AGruCA) and editor of the cultural magazine "Desde adentro...".

 

Artistic review

He began his work as a mask maker with seven years of age, in 1986.


Founder of the Cultural Group Aserrí, pioneer of the conservation of the Masquerade, zanqueros and Cimarrona Traditional Costarricense, rescuing a significant number of characters from the first groups of mantudos in the country (1996).

 

Masck maker of Chicharronera Cacique Acserí plant, of the artistic-traditional show, called "Noches Folclóricas Aserriceñas" (1997- 2006).


Together with the mask and National Award of Popular Culture Guillermo Martínez Solano and the University College of Cartago, he gave free workshops on traditional masks, to hundreds of children from the communities of Cartago, Paraíso, Cachí and Oreamuno (2004-2005 ).

Founder Association Aserrí Cultural Group (AGruCA), first in the country, dedicated to the conservation of the Traditional Costa Rican Masquerade, which is private, cultural, technical and conservationist, non-profit and national and international scope of action (2009).

 

Participation in the course Manual for the Organization of Cultural Activities and Events, UNESCO, Fund for the Development of the MDGs (2009).

 

Advisor to the Municipal Mayor's Office and in charge of the Cultural Management area of ​​the Municipality of Aserrí (2011).

 

Participation in the Intensive Course of Agenda 21 for Culture and Cultural Management; Workshop Design Route for the Construction of Policies and Strategies for Local Cultural Development Forum Cultural Policies and Strategies for Local Development, taught by the Municipality of San José and the Ministry of Culture and Youth (2011-2012).

 

Active participation in the proposal of Integral Restoration of the Mu-

nicipal Palace of Aserrí, winner of the contest "Let's save our Cultural

Architectural Heritage", of the Center for Research and Conserva-

tion of the Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Youth (2012).


Construction of the Cultural Policy of the Canton of Aserrí, through the

celebration of

Cultural Encounters with representation of the different cultural actors

of the cityof Aserrí and authorities of the Ministry of Culture and

Youth (2012).

 

Advice to local artisans for the creation of the Art Association healthy Aserriceños (2012).

 

Advisor to the Minister of Culture and Youth, on the topic of Municipal Cultural Management, where he worked with about 35 local governments in participatory construction and follow-up on Cultural Policies (2014-2015).

 

Representative of Costa Rica in the Eleventh Meeting of the Committee on Culture of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the final debate was held on the draft of the new Agenda 21 for Culture, a primordial input in the Ibero-American Cultural Public Policies (2014).

 

Winner of the PROARTES Program of the Ministry of Culture and Youth with the "To the taste of the folklore" project (2016).
